CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION WORKSHOP
It is a workshop that helps to better understand the inevitable impacts of climate change and to imagine adaptation strategies at the local and individual levels.
Key scientific facts
The workshop draws on IPCC reports that predict significant impacts even under the most optimistic scenarios. For example, a 1.5°C increase would lead to an increase in heatwaves, droughts, and extreme weather events. Participants learn that every additional fraction of a degree worsens the impacts, making adaptation strategies crucial to limit human, economic, and environmental losses.
Process and duration
During this 3-hour workshop, participants begin by exploring the impacts of climate change at the global, regional and local levels. Then, they focus on adaptation solutions in areas such as agriculture, urban planning, water resource management and public health. Finally, they reflect on concrete actions to be implemented to strengthen the resilience of communities to future climate impacts.
What is it about ?
This workshop focuses on ways to adapt to climate change, exploring the impacts that we will not be able to avoid and how societies can prepare to face them. Participants discover the effects of global warming on territories (droughts, floods, rising sea levels) and work together to identify solutions adapted to their local contexts.
Why is it essential ?
Even with drastic emissions reductions, some of the impacts of climate change are already unavoidable. It is therefore crucial to prepare for these changes to minimize damage and protect vulnerable populations. This workshop helps to understand that adaptation is not an alternative to reducing emissions, but a complementary strategy to address ongoing and future changes.
