BIODIVERSITY COLLAGE
Interactive workshop to understand the causes of biodiversity loss and its impact on ecosystems and human societies.
What is it about ?
The Biodiversity Collage is a collective activity aimed at better understanding the challenges of biodiversity. By reconstructing a set of maps, participants explore the interactions between different species, their environment and the impact of human activities on these balances. It is an educational tool that allows us to grasp the importance of ecosystems in our daily lives.
Why is it essential ?
Biodiversity plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecosystems on which human life depends. Understanding the pressures that humans exert on it (pollution, deforestation, urbanization) allows us to better understand the urgency of taking action to preserve it. Raising awareness of these issues encourages more sustainable and nature-friendly practices, which are essential for future generations.
Key scientific facts
Participants rely on scientific reports such as those from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). These data show that more than a million animal and plant species are threatened with extinction due to human activities, and highlight the importance of preserving species diversity to maintain the resilience of ecosystems.
Process and duration
The workshop lasts approximately 3 hours and follows a three-phase process. The first phase is devoted to exploring ecological links: participants place and discuss cards that represent the constituent elements of biodiversity. The second phase allows us to discuss human impacts on these balances. Finally, the last phase invites us to reflect collectively on the solutions to be implemented.
