NEW NARRATIVES FRESK
A collaborative workshop to explore alternative and positive narratives around ecology and imagine sustainable futures.
Key scientific facts
Social science researchers have demonstrated the importance of stories in transforming societies. Studies show that stories that place social and ecological justice at the center of collective action can help mobilize individuals around more sustainable projects. Current stories based on the exploitation of resources and growth at all costs are largely responsible for the ecological crises we are experiencing today.
Process and duration
The workshop lasts approximately 3 hours and takes place in three phases. First, participants analyze the current narratives on climate and ecology that shape our lifestyles, often focused on consumption, growth and the exploitation of resources. Then, they imagine together alternative narratives that emphasize sustainability, resilience and cooperation. Finally, they share their visions and discuss concrete ways to make these stories more present in our society.
What is it about ?
The New Narratives Fresk invites participants to reinvent the narratives that structure our relationship to the world and the environment. By working on alternative stories, they explore how dominant narratives influence our behaviors and lifestyles, and how new narratives could accompany a more just and sustainable ecological transition. This workshop is an invitation to rethink our collective future through a positive vision of change.
Why is it essential ?
The stories we tell profoundly influence our actions and collective choices. Creating new stories around ecology allows us to imagine possible futures where climate issues are taken into account in a positive and constructive way. This workshop encourages us to move away from anxiety-provoking discourse to consider creative and inspiring solutions, giving participants the feeling that a more sustainable future is not only desirable but also possible.
