A 1.5-hour interactive conference-quiz on biodiversity loss, ecosystem services, and conservation strategies through engaging questions and informed dialogue.

The Workshop

The Biodiversity Quiz is an interactive educational session exploring the crisis of biodiversity loss and pathways to restoration. Through carefully crafted quiz questions, participants develop understanding of what biodiversity is, why it matters, which ecosystems and species face greatest threats, and what conservation strategies are most effective. The session combines knowledge building with inspiration, moving from awareness of problems to understanding solutions and opportunities for ecological restoration at scales from personal yards to global conservation.

Why It Matters

This workshop matters because biodiversity underpins all ecosystem services humans depend on - pollination, water purification, climate regulation, food production, and cultural enrichment. Yet biodiversity loss has accelerated dramatically, with wild vertebrate populations declining by an average of 68 percent since 1970. Building biodiversity literacy is essential so individuals and organizations understand their interconnection with nature and can contribute to the systemic changes needed to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.

Good to Know

The GAIA 20:30 Biodiversity Campaign features interactive quizzes with 15 core questions plus simplified 8-question versions for accessibility. National Geographic's biodiversity quiz has engaged hundreds of thousands of learners. Recent webinars using Kahoot! biodiversity quizzes attracted over 162 participants in a single session. Habitat protection, restoration, and sustainable use of natural resources are proven strategies for supporting biodiversity recovery and building ecosystem resilience.

What to Expect

Facilitators begin by grounding participants in what biodiversity means and why ecosystems are resilient only when species-rich; participants answer quiz questions covering major biomes, endangered species, ecosystem services, and conservation approaches; facilitators reveal data on biodiversity loss rates and threats; discussion explores how biodiversity loss connects to climate change, food systems, and human health; participants learn about conservation successes and regenerative practices; the session concludes with participants committing to actions supporting biodiversity in their local communities or organizations.
