The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive applies to over 50,000 companies in Europe. Most of them are figuring out the requirements as they go. A Bleen CSRD consultant brings the methodology, the ESRS knowledge, and the project management to deliver your report on time and at the quality level assurance providers expect.

Key Takeaways

  • Double materiality assessment: stakeholder interviews, impact and financial materiality scoring, ESRS standard selection
  • ESRS gap analysis: mapping your current data against required disclosure points
  • Data collection architecture: sources, owners, timelines, and quality protocols for each data point
  • Report production: narrative sections, quantitative tables, XBRL tagging preparation
  • Auditor preparation: documentation trail, methodology notes, and assurance-readiness review

What your CSRD consultant delivers

Double materiality assessment. The foundation of your CSRD report. The consultant designs the methodology, runs stakeholder interviews (typically 10 to 25 internal and external), scores impacts and financial risks, and produces the materiality matrix that determines which ESRS standards apply to your company.

ESRS gap analysis. Once materiality is defined, the consultant maps every required data point against your current data availability. The output is a structured gap register with priorities, owners, and a timeline to close each gap.

Data collection setup. The consultant defines collection templates, assigns data owners, sets validation rules, and runs the first collection cycle. This architecture persists beyond the first report.

Report production. Writing the narrative sections, assembling quantitative disclosures, and preparing the document for XBRL tagging. The consultant produces a report that meets ESRS structure requirements and reads well for human audiences.

Assurance preparation. Before your auditor arrives, the consultant reviews the report against assurance criteria, documents every data source and methodology choice, and prepares the evidence file.

Why bring in a CSRD specialist

The regulation is specific and technical. CSRD involves 12 ESRS standards, 1,100+ data points, cross-cutting requirements, and evolving guidance from EFRAG. A consultant who works on this across multiple clients stays current on interpretations that your internal team would need months to learn.

The timeline is fixed. Your reporting deadline is set by your company size and fiscal year. There is no extension mechanism. A Bleen consultant starts with the end date and works backward to build a realistic project plan.

First reports set the baseline. Your first CSRD report establishes the data architecture, methodology choices, and quality standards you will maintain for years. Getting it right the first time avoids costly corrections later.

Assurance is mandatory. Unlike voluntary sustainability reports, CSRD filings require third-party assurance. The consultant builds audit-readiness into every step rather than scrambling to document after the fact.

How the engagement works

Phase 1: Materiality (4 to 8 weeks). Stakeholder mapping, interview design and execution, materiality scoring, ESRS standard selection. Deliverable: materiality report and ESRS scope.

Phase 2: Gap analysis and data architecture (4 to 6 weeks). Data point mapping, gap register, collection process design. Deliverable: data collection plan with owners and timelines.

Phase 3: Data collection (8 to 16 weeks depending on scope). Running collection cycles, validating inputs, closing gaps. The consultant manages this process end to end.

Phase 4: Report production (4 to 8 weeks). Drafting, internal review cycles, XBRL preparation, assurance readiness review. Deliverable: publication-ready CSRD report.

Typical total timeline: 6 to 12 months depending on company size and data maturity. The consultant works 3 to 5 days per week during active phases.
